1. Warming up and lead-in

Greet the students in English.
Let’s chant “can”
I can, you can, everybody can.
Sing, dance, jump, and run.
He can, she can, everybody can.
Paint, speak, play the guitar.
You can, they can, everybody can.
Good, good, let’s say it again.
T: Now can you chant it?
Ss: Yes , I can.
No, I can’t
Step2: Presentation
T: I think most of you can chant now, and what else can you do?
T: Can you play basketball? (Show a picture of a person playing basketball.)
S1: Yes, I can. I can play basketball.
No, I can’t. I can’t play basketball. (Help Ss to answer.)
T: Can you play the chess?
S2: Yes, I can. I can play the chess.
S3: No, I can’t. I can’t play the chess.
Show other pictures to teach verbs of activity such as dance, sing, swim and paint and verb phrases like play chess, speak English and play the guitar in the same way. Step 3: Guessing
Ask some students to act according to the words in the paper (dance, swim, sing, play chess, paint, speak English, play the guitar). The others guess “can he/she do something) according the actors’ body language.
Step 3: Practice
Then ask Ss to match the words with the pictures in page 59 on the book and after finishing, check the answers. (Section A 1A)
T: It’s time for you to learn something about others. Ask and answer in pairs like this:
A: Can he/she/they…?
B: Yes, he/she/they can. He/she/they can…
A: Can you…?
B: Yes, I can. I can…/No, I can’t. I can’t…
Ask several pairs to perform their conversations.
T: You did a very job. You can do so many things. Our school has many clubs. Let’s he a look.
Show some clubs and teach the names of clubs.
T: There are so many clubs here. What club do you want to join?
S1: I want to join …. (Help Ss to answer.)
Work in pairs and make a conversation like this:
A: What can you do?
B: I can…
A: What club do you want to join?
B: I want to join…
Then ask Ss to perform their conversations.
Step 4: Listening
T: As we’ve learned something about the clubs. Let’s come to the clubs. Look! There are many people here to join the clubs. Let’s listen what they can do and what club they want to join.
1. Play the recording and ask Ss to number the conversations [1-3] and then check the answer. (Section A 1b)
2. Play the recording again and ask Ss to imitate the listening material of Section A 1b)
3. Play the recording of Section A 2a and ask Ss to circle the clubs they hear. Check the answer.
4. Play the recording of Section A 2a again and ask Ss to complete the conversation with the words in the box. Check the answer.
5. Play the recording of Section A 2a again and ask Ss to imitate.
Step 5: Group work
T: The clubs are enrolling new members.
